Disclaimer: today’s blog post will be in English, because, well, the photos were taken in Australia, the pictured family is Australian / Canadian, so it kind of makes sense. 😉
From the minute I knew that I was going to Australia on business, I knew I had to bring my camera along. It was out of the question. Going away without my camera would have felt like leaving the house without wearing pants. (And why would anyone want to do that?!)
Because, see, I had this dream. A dream about standing at the beach, barefooted, toes buried in the sand. Salty wind in my hair, warm sunshine on my cheeks and grains of sand everywhere. Holding my beloved camera in hands. And people in front of my lens. This was my dream before I came to Australia: getting to take pictures of nice, funny, lovely people at the beach. (As you can tell, it really doesn’t take a whole lot to make me happy.)
The day I left Switzerland, while I was at the airport, I got a message from Lauren. She had heard that I was coming to Melbourne and was interested in having pictures taken with her family. I was in heaven. (Literally. Because I was obviously leaving on a plane, but also because my dream just seemed to become true.)
Lauren, Tony and their beautiful, little girl Thea met me on a perfect summer evening for a photo shoot at the beach in St. Kilda. While I was standing in the sand, with the sun slowly setting on the horizon and this family of three having fun in front of my camera, I was blown away by the awesomeness of it all. Not in 100 years would I have dared to imagine that I would ever be standing at a beach in Australia, and actually doing a photo shoot. (Just standing at the beach as such – yeah, I could have pictured that.) Sometimes, reality is so darn good, that no dream you ever have could even come close.
You guys – thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me spend an evening with your family. I loved every minute of our photo shoot and will treasure these pictures forever. I wish you all the best for your future! (And many thanks for the delicious cookies – the upside of being in Australia all by myself is that I didn’t have to share them. ;-))
Much love and appreciation,
Andrea
